Why Do We Need a Homeless Count?

To establish a baseline of our homeless population, so that we can track our progress toward reducing homelessness,

To preserve over $11 million in current federal funding for homeless services in Orange County, and enhance our ability to raise new private and government funds in the future,
To improve the ability of government and service providers to plan and implement effective services,
And, to increase public awareness of homelessness throughout Orange County.

Who is Coordinating the Count?
The OC Community Services and Health Care Agency has partnered with Applied Survey Research and OC Partnership, to help conduct the Count and Survey process. Applied Survey Research will be responsible for implementing the methodology and collating the count results. OC Partnership will provide day-to-day project management and logistical support and oversee the volunteer recruitment. Orange County Health Care Agency will provide resources to ensure that the unsheltered, hard-to-reach and homeless with physical and mental disabilities are given a voice. OC Community Services will provide project leadership and guidance.
